Introduction to Revenues.
What is a Revenue stamp?
As well as the pleasure in collecting, organising and classifying for many people the journey into collecting revenue stamps in particular opens a very different perspective into the social and legal history of a country or topic.
The Society’s definition is:
“Revenue stamps, whether impressed, adhesive or otherwise, issued by or on behalf of International, National, Local Governments, their licensees or agents and are indicative that a tax or duty has been paid or prepaid or that a permission has been granted”
This definition covers all aspects of Revenue collecting including stamps, documents, licences or any other related ephemera and can be collected traditionally or thematically.
